Hořesedly combines a historic townscape with a landscape traditionally shaped by hop cultivation. In the historic centre, agricultural manor farms and homesteads have been preserved around a large, elongated rectangular village green. In addition, several large historic manor farms have been preserved in Hořesedly.

History

The first documented mention of Hořesedly dates from 1316. At that time, the village, then called Hořesedl, was home to the Vladyka Jan z Hořesedel.

Landscape

Hořesedly has traditionally been shaped by hop cultivation; hop fields occupy a large part of the landscape.

Culture

The fishing club in Hořesedly regularly organises fishing competitions as part of the celebrations for Children's Day. The small Church of St Lawrence stands north of the main road to Karlovy Vary, on the southern side of the small village green, in a park next to the monument to the fallen of the First World War.

The erection, unveiling and consecration of a statue of St Lawrence was scheduled to take place in the park on the village green behind the church on 16 August 2014 at 12:30 p.m.

Geographical Setting

The ruins of Pravda Castle, Džbán Mountain, Loustín Mountain and the Church of St Gothard are located in the vicinity of Hořesedly.

The immediate surroundings of Hořesedly include the Na Vyhlídce hill [Hořovičky-Hokov] and Novoveský vrch hill [Děkov]. In the wider regional area are the Svatý Prokop monument and the ruins of Lina Castle.

Transport and Local History

The Hořesedly railway stop is located 3 km from the village on the line from Rakovník via Louny to Most. In the 19th century, Hořesedly was the only post station between Řevničov and Libkovice on the road from Prague to Karlovy Vary. Stagecoaches stopped in Hořesedly, where there was also a coaching inn.
