Hořovičky combines a longstanding hop-growing tradition, historic architecture, and a gently rolling to hilly landscape. The appearance of the village and its immediate surroundings preserve traces from different periods and shape the character of the area.

Culture

The Orthodox Church of St. Cyril and Methodius, together with its rectory, is a national cultural monument and forms a unified ensemble in the Historicist Neo-Romanesque style. It was built in 1901–1902 as an Evangelical church in the Pseudo-Romanesque style. The interior is accessible during services.

Hop growing has shaped the development and character of Hořovičky since time immemorial. Large, masonry, multi-storey post-Classical houses with extensive utility areas designed for hop growing predominate in Hořovičky. There is also prehistoric evidence, with finds from the Neolithic, the Únětice culture, and the early La Tène period, including a princely tomb.

Landscape

The landscape around Hořovičky is gently rolling to hilly and features a mosaic-like mix of forests, fields, meadows, and hop gardens. The registered landscape feature Šmikousy, a former pond, is a valuable wetland. The Jesenicko Nature Park lies south of Hořovičky.

History
