History and Culture

Lochovice Castle, a four-winged late Renaissance château, was built on the site of an earlier fortress and later remodelled. It is protected as a cultural monument; the Lochovice castle grounds include a park, gardens and a pond. The castle is open to the public only in connection with occasional cultural events. The castle’s entrance garden, called Šance, lies to the north and was created on the site of the original fortifications. The archaeological site at Lochovice Castle contains documented or reasonably suspected archaeological finds.

The present-day Baroque Church of St Andrew dates from 1654; the earlier Gothic church, dedicated to Saint Stanislaus, was destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War. The Church of St Andrew stands on a lawn in the western part of Lochovice’s square. South of the presbytery stands a sandstone column with a statue of the Virgin Mary.

The Na Stráži fortification is an archaeological site on a spur above the right bank of the Litavka at the southern edge of Lochovice. It lies between the Litavka and the road to Lhotka, covers approximately 7 hectares and consisted of three parts.

The healing spring of the former spa in Lochovice is still located beside a chapel on the grounds of Domov Lochovice. A chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary was built at the healing spring in Lochovice in 1757–1758.

Paths and Forests

The Lochovická Třicítka starts in front of Lochovice railway station. The circular trail and educational path “Z Jinec na Olymp Brd” can be accessed from Lochovice. The nearby forests on Plešivec, Ostrý and in Koncipudy offer opportunities for pleasant walks.
