Měchenice: Hotels and Accommodation

Měchenice lies on the left bank of the Vltava, 2 km downstream from the confluence of the Sázava and Vltava rivers.

Landscape

The hills around Měchenice are suitable for walking and hiking trips. Chlumík [Vrané nad Vltavou] is a hill in the vicinity of Měchenice; Holý vrch [Okrouhlo] and Vršky [Klínec] are also hills in the vicinity. Doutnáč is a mountain in the wider regional surroundings of Měchenice.

Depending on weather conditions, cross-country skiing is possible in the vicinity of Měchenice in winter. At Bojov in Měchenice, there is a usual launching and landing point for paddling.

History and Townscape

Měchenice is one of the oldest settlements in Bohemia; the first mention of its existence dates from 999.

The steel bridge Měchenický ocelový most connects the right and left banks of the Vltava. A preserved water tower stands at Měchenice railway station; it was once used to fill steam locomotives. The Chapel of St. Ludmila is located in the lower part of Sloupecká Street.

Activities and Events

The Měchenice Tennis Club organizes a tennis school for everyone interested in tennis; it also organizes tennis tournaments.

“Měchenická letní noc” is an event held regularly at the end of June; in the municipal events calendar, it is scheduled for the penultimate Saturday in June. “Rozloučení s létem” is scheduled for the first Saturday in September.
