Petrov: Hotels and accommodation

Petrov is located in the Posázaví region on the right bank of the Sázava, 5 km from Jílové u Prahy. The village’s history includes medieval gold mining and a mining tradition that can be traced through to the present day: gold was mined in the eastern cadastral area until 1968.

Geographical setting

The two railway stops, Petrov Chlomek and Petrov u Prahy, on the Posázavský pacifik line are important geographical reference points for finding your way around the area. There is also a direct connection by water: canoeists can reach the Pikovice–Petrov bridge via the Sázava. In addition, bus route 444 operated by the Prague Integrated Transport system runs between Jílové and Davle.

Nature

The 398-metre-high Ďábel hill rises above Petrov; an information panel stands at its summit. The oak forest blocks the view from the summit, but there is a good view from the edge of the forest. In the wider area around Petrov, Střed Čech Nature Park has a dense network of hiking trails suitable for walking and cycling. To the north and east of Petrov, the nature park encompasses forests and open fields, including the geographical centre of Bohemia.

The natural landscape also includes the Třeštibok natural monument on the rocky right bank of the Sázava Canyon. Apart from the rocks, it is covered by forest of natural composition. The Třeštibok viewpoint in Petrov-Bohuliby offers an unobstructed view of the Sázava River.

Educational trails and paths

The Medník educational trail begins at the Petrov u Prahy railway stop. It is approximately 5 km long and has 14 stations. A tourist route with an educational trail also passes through Třeštibok. From the Třeštibok viewpoint, a yellow-marked hiking trail leads in about 10 minutes to a similar view of the river from the Hadí skála viewpoint.

The Posázavská Trail runs through the area around Petrov along the Sázava between Pikovice and Kamenný Přívoz. It has only gentle inclines there and is suitable for families with children and dogs, but it is not accessible to prams. The Posázavská Trail can also be reached by train via the Petrov u Prahy stop.

History

Petrov was probably founded in the 13th century by monks from Ostrovský Monastery. The village was first mentioned in writing in 1310.
