Pouste: Hotels and Accommodations
Pouště has a history closely connected with the Kocába and the Plechhamer site. The history of the Plechhamer site began in 1698 as a hammer mill for the production of copper plate on the Kocába; at the same time, the hammer mill was one of the first facilities of its kind in Central Bohemia. The Plechhamer Mill was built in 1707 in the Kocába valley near Pustiny, which was later renamed Pouště.
Culture and History
The Plechhamer Mill burned down in 1931 and today survives only as a ruin. The Plechamerský double pond was located at the site of the Plechhamer Mill and disappeared in 1941. At this point, the Kocába formed a U-shaped bend and ran through a deep, rocky valley; a large embankment created there formed the large double pond known as Plechamerský.
The Chapel of St. John the Baptist in Pouště has been reconstructed. Ceramic photographs of men who fell in the First and Second World Wars were installed at the chapel. On August 17, 2025, the automatically controlled bell rang for the first time in Pouště; from that day onward, it was to ring every Sunday at noon.
Landscape
Aglaia, Točna, Vesely, and Hradec are located in the vicinity of Pouště; all four are mountains. Also in the vicinity are Malá Svatá Hora, a church, and Svatá Anna, also a church.
In the wider regional area around Pouště are Karlštejn, a castle, and Zřícenina Valdek, a castle ruin.
Routes
The Lurdy cycling tour reaches the settlement of Pouště via a concrete bridge over the Kocába. One described route passes the Chapel of St. John the Baptist and a small pond in pastureland before reaching Mokrovraty railway station.
Another described route follows paths along the right bank of the Kocába to a bridge, crosses the river, and climbs through fields to Pouště.
