Roztoky lies in a landscape of wooded hills and deep, rocky valleys along the Berounka River. Roztoky has a 250 m long slalom course, 180 m of which is an artificial slalom course. Around 45 gates are available there for training purposes.

Water and River Landscapes

The Areál u jezu recreational area is located on the Berounka. It offers opportunities for picnics, swimming and sports activities. From Roztoky railway station, a well-maintained path leads along the river, past the canoe slalom course, to this recreational area.

Nature and Geology

The U Eremita educational trail begins on the road from Roztoky to Karlova Ves, at the mouth of the Klučná stream where it flows into the Berounka, near an arched bridge. It is a moderately difficult footpath. Using 35 species as examples, it conveys the diversity of tree and shrub species characteristic of Křivoklátsko.

The U Eremita Nature Reserve protects natural forest communities with an abundant occurrence of yew trees on rocky scree slopes, as well as an active calcareous tuff area. The U Eremita geological site lies on the right bank of the Berounka between Branov and Roztoky, approximately halfway along the U Eremita educational trail and west of the mouth of the Klučná. It includes a calcareous spring and Quaternary calcareous tuff formations at a tectonically defined contact between the andesites of the Křivoklátsko-Rokycany Belt and Neoproterozoic schists. The site is designated as a geotourist attraction or geotope.

Trails and Culture

The “Through the Berounka Canyon to the Hermit” walking trail begins and ends at a car park in Roztoky near the water slalom course. The red hiking trail of the Club of Czech Tourists (KČT), Route 0001, also passes through Roztoky. This route is 202.5 km long, begins in Zvíkovec and follows the Berounka, Vltava and Sázava rivers to the Vysočina Region.

In the immediate vicinity, the Na Babě Nature Reserve offers a prepared viewpoint on a rocky ridge overlooking Roztoky and the Berounka; a well-marked hiking trail leads there. Křivoklát Castle can be reached from Roztoky via an approximately 2 km long footpath that leads past the Paraplíčko viewpoint.
