History and Culture

The settlement of Hrádek was first mentioned in an official document in 1377 in connection with the nobleman Bořek of Hrádek. On the site of the former Hrádek fortress, on plot no. 15, a visible circular rampart has been preserved.

The single-nave Early Baroque Church of St. George in Hrádek has been documented as a wooden parish church since 1384. It was destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War and rebuilt as a masonry church in 1692. As an immovable cultural monument, it is listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic under registration number 29516/6-620.

Hrádek u Nechanic Château in Lubno u Nechanic was built between 1839 and 1857 by František Arnošt, Count of Harrach, as a representative summer residence for the Harrach count’s family. The Church of St. George is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Hrádek.

Landscape

Part of the château park of Hrádek u Nechanic lies in Hrádek. The château park was established in 1844 and today covers approximately 18 hectares. It can normally be visited without a guide; exceptions may include special events and guided tours.

The hills of Kozí kopec [Libčany-Želí], Kavkaz [Libčany], and Dubina [Střezetice] are located in the vicinity of Hrádek. The Sobětušský bor hill [Nechanice-Sobětuš] is located in the surroundings of Hrádek.

Paths and Connections

The walk to the Jehlický vrch viewpoint follows a red-marked hiking trail through the forest to a shelter with a view. One route passes through a gate to the château’s side gate; from there, you can continue into the château park. Cycle Route 144 connects the municipality of Hrádek with Hrádek u Nechanic Château.
