Bašnice: Hotels and Accommodation

Bašnice is located in the Podchlumí microregion. Its sandstone deposits shaped the local architecture and provided a livelihood for the stonemasons and sculptors who worked there.

Culture and History

Bašnice was formerly also known as Bašněves. The first record of the former fortress of Bašnice dates back to 1499. By 1542, it had already been abandoned. According to tradition, the former fortress stood near the bridge over the Bašnický potok and not far from the bell tower.

At the eastern edge of Bašnice, a stone cross on a column stands at the intersection towards Milovice u Hořic. The stone cross dates from 1767 and was restored in 2009. In an open area in the centre of the village, at the intersection towards Bříšťany, there is a memorial to those who fell in the First World War. It is dated 1928; the granite plaque dates from 1921, and the memorial was restored in 2009.

Nature

Bašnický les, a natural monument designated in 1990, lies west of Bašnice. This forest contains Slavic burial mounds dating from the 9th century.

Cycling

The “Zámecká cyklotrasa Hořice” cycle route passes through Bašnice between Milovice and Dobrá Voda u Hořic. It is suitable for trekking bikes and, where appropriate, road bikes as well, and runs along paved roads.
