A special geographical feature of Rokytňany is the Dymokursko Site of Community Importance (code CZ0210101), which includes the cadastral area of Dolní Rokytňany.

Nature

The Dymokursko Natura 2000 site extends into the southern edge of the Rokytňany planning area. It protects floodplain forests, oak-hornbeam forests and old acidic oak forests, Euro-Siberian steppe oak forests, standing waters and extensively mown meadows.

Rokytňanský rybník is one of the bodies of water in the Rokytňany planning area. A breeding record of the Eurasian bittern (Botaurus stellaris) was documented at Rokytňanský rybník in Dolní Rokytňany in 1988.

Culture and history

Dolní Rokytňany was first mentioned in writing in 1381 and was referred to as Velké Rokytňany in the mid-16th century. Archaeological finds show that Dolní Rokytňany has been inhabited since around the end of the 14th century. The archaeological finds also indicate that a historically significant road to Central Bohemia ran through Dolní Rokytňany.

Coin finds are also part of the documented history of the locality: denarii from the first third of the 13th century and Prague groschen from the 15th century were found in Dolní Rokytňany.

There is a column bearing a statue of the crucified Christ in Dolní Rokytňany. It is listed in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic under registration number 52195/6-6305. The sandstone cross in Dolní Rokytňany dates from 1868.

Dětenice Chateau, known for its medieval tavern and Baroque chateau, is located in the vicinity of Rokytňany. Staré Hrady Chateau is also located near Rokytňany and offers fairytale tours for families with children.

From 29 June 2026, the bus timetable toward “Mladá Boleslav,aut.st.” applies to the “Rokytňany,Dolní Rokytňany” stop.
