Rašín lies in a gently rolling agricultural landscape and has been surrounded mostly by fields for more than a century. Throughout its entire documented history, sugar beet, maize, grain and potatoes have been grown in the fields around Rašín.

Landscape and bodies of water

Rašín lies in the Cidlinská tabule, a flat hilly landscape in the drainage basins of the Cidlina, Javorka and Bystřice rivers. The village is also in the drainage basin of the Rašínský potok stream. This stream flows into the Bašnický potok above Bříšťany.

The agricultural landscape around Rašín is criss-crossed by a network of field paths with grass-covered ditches.

History and culture

Rašín was first mentioned in written documents in 1134. Jan, the Bishop of Prague, bought Rašín and donated it to Strahov Monastery. At the end of the 18th century, Rašín was known for horse breeding.

Small architectural structures, war memorials, sculptures and bell towers in Rašín have cultural and historical value. The U Sv. Gotharda I and II sculpture park contains more than one hundred sandstone sculptures by sculptors from Europe, Asia and America. The U Sv. Gotharda I and II sculpture park is freely accessible year-round.

Nature and trails

The “Kazatelna” natural monument was designated in 1998 in the cadastral area of Rašín, which partly belongs to the municipality of Ostrov, covering an area of 69 hectares. The “Kazatelna” natural monument contains a xerothermic woodland of the Quercion alliance with protected and endangered plant species. Visitors should remain on the marked paths. Kazatelna can also be reached via the municipality of Klenice.

Transport and other places

Rašín lies on the Turnov–Hradec Králové railway line between Jeřice and Třebovětice stations. The Hořice Trails comprise three routes open to the public, with a total length of 3.7 km. The Dachova natural swimming pool features remarkable wooden architecture from the 1920s.
