Velké Petrovice: Hotels and Accommodations
Velké Petrovice combines history and landscape within a small area.
History
Petrovice was probably founded at the end of the 13th century by the Lords of Dubá. In 1420, a battle between Catholic Silesians and Hussites took place in the Metuje Valley near Petrovice. 250 Hussites are said to have fallen in this battle.
Landscape
In the immediate vicinity of Petrovice, Vlčinec is a high, narrow rocky spur with chalk outcrops above a meander of the Metuje. Traces of the medieval Vlčinec Castle can be found at the southern end of the rocky spur. The marlstone rock walls there reach a height of 5 to 8 meters. Fossil remains of animals from the Cretaceous Sea can be found in the marlstone. Visible ring ditches and ramparts of the fortifications of the former Vlčinec watch castle have also been preserved.
Cycling and Hiking Trail
During a cycling trip in the Kladské Pomezí region, you can enjoy beautiful views from the road above Velké Petrovice. A hiking route from Teplice nad Metují via Skály, Čáp, and Stárkov to Velké Petrovice leads to the Velké Petrovice bus stop and then to Police nad Metují railway station.
Below the Rock Massif
A railway tunnel runs beneath the rock massif on which Petrovice is situated. The tunnel is just under 300 meters long.
