Culture and History
St. Joseph’s Church is a single-nave building with a tower on the western front, without a pronounced presbytery and with a polygonal termination. The main altar features a painting of Saint Joseph with the Christ Child by the painter Lorenz from Kuks.
The simple rural sacred building is typical of the mid-19th century. Its restrained elements, including the windows and entrance portal, draw on forms of late Classicism.
The first written mention of Vlčkovice appears in a 1415 purchase contract between Jan Městecký z Opočna and Žofie, the widow of Jan Rothstein z Rothze. The contract states that the village was established in 1410.
In 1778, the Prussian King Frederick II (Bedřich II.) set up his headquarters in Vlčkovice. There are also several mass graves of Prussian soldiers in the village.
For your preparation, you can note historical and architectural topics separately. Building form, tradition and local history can be considered independently if you take different interests into account in your planning.
When preparing, you can organize the location around four interests: architecture, historical names and dates, route connections or sports opportunities. These priorities can be weighted independently. Your planning can address them consecutively or separately.
Trails and Activities
Cycle route No. 4098 runs through Vlčkovice. A blue-marked hiking trail also passes through the village; it provides access to the nearby Kuks Hospital on foot or by bicycle in the direction of Kuks.
You can take the different types of routes into account separately when planning your day: cycling, hiking and the route to a named destination each provide a distinct focus. When making your selection, you can weigh the desired means of transport and the connection to Kuks independently of each other.
The multipurpose sports ground in Vlčkovice is available for tennis, nohejbal and volleyball. The fenced multipurpose sports ground also includes a table tennis facility.
