Dolní Malá Úpa: Hotels and Accommodation

Malá Úpa combines preserved original Giant Mountains log cabins with trails, events, and nature routes. Culture and landscape are closely intertwined here.

Culture

Šímovy Chalupy consists of several preserved original Giant Mountains log cabins and forms a protected village heritage zone.

The Baroque Church of St. Peter and Paul is a landmark of Malá Úpa and was built in 1788–1789. From Pomezní Boudy, the church can be reached via yellow- or red-marked hiking trails and is a destination for many pilgrims. Maloúpský jarmark, a traditional event celebrating old Giant Mountains traditions, takes place in its surroundings.

Trails

The Disidentská stezka commemorates four decades of meetings between Czech and Polish dissidents in the Giant Mountains (1978–2018). U kostela is one of its six named stops. The Závod rohaček – Memoriál Josefa Tylše is a traditional event held in the U Kostela area.

The Pohádková stezka is a walking trail through Malá Úpa with ten stops and a permanent exhibition of Giant Mountains fairy tales by writer Marie Kubátová. It combines wooden fairy-tale panels with a climbing and play facility for children.

Emmina stezka leads from Spálený Mlýn in the lower part of Malá Úpa and is also used today as a cycling route. The 10.7 km cross-country skiing route Lví důl begins in Spálený Mlýn or Smrčí. From Spálený Mlýn, it follows the Jelení potok stream to the foot of Sněžka. The route also leads to Šímovy Chalupy, a protected village heritage zone.

Nature

Within Krkonoše National Park, the Malá Úpa can be navigated by non-motorized watercraft in the section from Spálený Mlýn to the confluence of the Jelení potok and the Úpa.
