Horní Životice is located in the Nízký Jeseník landscape region.

History and Architecture

Horní Životice was first mentioned in 1265 as property of Velehrad Monastery. The Church of St. Nicholas, a branch church of the Roman Catholic parish of Svobodné Heřmanice, dates from the second half of the 19th century.

Beneath the cemetery is a 13th-century adit dating from the period of silver ore mining. Iron ore mining began in the area around Horní Životice in 1850 and was discontinued in 1904.

Of the two windmills that were still operational until 1947, only the remains of one windmill survive today in Františkov. In Horní Životice, the Františkov windmill is listed as a windmill.

Landscape and Water

The Heřmanický potok flows through Horní Životice; the Životický rybník pond lies along its course in the southern part of the municipality. South of Horní Životice there is also a former shale quarry that is partially filled with water and used as a natural swimming area.

Cycling Routes and Trails

The 28-kilometre cycling route 6159 connects Úvalno, Úblo, Lichnov, Sosnová, Horní Životice, Svobodné Heřmanice, Bratříkovice and Hlavnice. A local cycling route towards Krnov also passes through Horní Životice. However, no marked hiking trail passes through Horní Životice.
