Staříč: Hotels and Accommodations

The Staříč–Okrouhlá educational trail was created by ČSOP Onyx for the municipality of Staříč and comprises a total of ten stations. It covers the present and history of the municipality of Staříč, nature conservation, the view from Okrouhlá, life in the meadow, the ecosystems of the pond and forest, and the relationship between people and the landscape.

Landscape and Views

The Okrouhlá lookout tower stands on the 378-meter-high Okrouhlá hill; its viewing platform is 30 meters above the ground. In clear weather, the lookout tower offers views of the Jeseníky and Javorový mountains. Below Okrouhlá hill, there is a parking lot for ten passenger cars serving the lookout tower; bus travelers can use another parking lot near the football pitch.

Kamenná Natural Area

Kamenná is a protected natural monument covering 2.83 hectares, designated in 1990 and located at an altitude of 329 to 354 meters. The natural monument is home to thermophilic plants and animals, especially mollusks, beetles, and true bugs. For some species, this is their northernmost occurrence in northeastern Moravia.

The Kamenná u Staříče Natural Monument is located on the grounds of long-abandoned limestone quarries on the northeastern slope of the 385-meter-high Kamenná hill in Staříč. In the Frýdek-Místek area, Kamenná u Staříče is listed as one of the small-scale specially protected natural areas. Kamenná can be reached by suburban bus lines in the direction of Fryčovice and Brušperk, as well as via parking areas at the primary school in Staříč and at the Staříč II mine.

Church and Local History

The Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross in Staříč already existed in the 16th century and received its tower in 1757. A chapel was added to the church in 1852; the first organs were installed there in 1896. The church stands on the grounds of a former cemetery enclosed by a perimeter wall and a sculpturally designed entrance gate. The church complex includes a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk.

Mining and Visitor Sites

The Staříč Training Gallery is an artificially constructed underground mine and an exhibition tunnel with 200 meters of tunnel passages. The tunnels contain standard mining workplaces arranged technologically as they would be in a real mine. Visits to the Staříč Training Gallery are reserved for groups of ten or more people and are possible only by prior appointment.

Construction of the Staříč mine began in 1962 as the construction of a coking-coal mine. The ŠTOLA – HORNICKÝ SKANZEN facility was built as a training facility from 1980 to 1984 and opened to the public in 1993.

Exercise at the Pump Track

The Staříč Pump Track is located on the grounds of the football pitch below Okrouhlá. The asphalt pump track can be used by inline skaters, scooter riders, and skateboarders. While riding over rollers and through berms, speed is maintained on a closed circuit by pumping rather than pedaling.
