Kobylá Nad Vidnavkou’s natural and cultural sites include the Venušiny misky, Kobylá Chateau, and the Church of St. Joachim.
Nature and Landscape
The Venušiny misky are located approximately 1.5 km east of Kobylá on Smolný vrch at an elevation of 404 m. The cadastral area of Kobylá also includes part of the Bažantnice forest complex, with the 404 m-high Smolný vrch and a rock city. The Venušiny misky are a unique geomorphological formation featuring the spherical jointing of granite. Their weathering forms include rock basins, rock chairs, seats, and niches.
Since 9 December 1971, the Venušiny misky have been protected as a national nature monument. A mixed forest dominated by Scots pine and European beech grows in the Venušiny misky protected area and on the summit of Smolný vrch. There is a lookout point on the highest rock of the Venušiny misky. Access there has been secured with railings since the beginning of the 20th century, and several steps have also been carved into the rock.
The chateau park in Kobylá was laid out in the 1830s by Baron Karel Klet of Skal.
Culture and History
Kobylá Chateau was built in 1570 and is protected as a cultural monument. It has an Empire-style façade. Above its original Renaissance portal are four female figures carved from stone.
The Church of St. Joachim was built in 1787–1788 in the Neoclassical sacred style. Construction was financed from the Religious Fund of Emperor Joseph II. In October 1788, the church was consecrated by the episcopal prince-commissary Ignaz Kunzler. It has an altarpiece associated with the Baroque painter Ignác Raab.
During work on the Church of St. Joachim, an original painted illusionistic altar on the end wall of the presbytery was discovered, uncovered, and restored. Only the Chapel of St. Joseph has survived; it is in very poor condition.
Cycling
The “Žulovsko na kole” cycling tour follows Cycle Route No. 6047 past Smolný vrch and the Venušiny misky. It runs along the former chateau avenue toward the railway station and continues into the Žulovská pahorkatina hills.
