Chvojenec: Hotels and accommodations
Chvojenec preserves a tangible historical connection through its water fortress: it was first mentioned in 1336, founded during the royal colonization to protect the route from Hradec Králové to Vysoké Mýto, and surrounded by three moats and an embankment.
Culture and history
The Chapel of Saint Agnes of Bohemia in Chvojenec was ceremonially opened on September 28, 2019. Its windows depict Saint Agnes of Bohemia and Saint Wenceslas. The altar and the cross were created by local woodcarver Radek Kreizl.
Nature
The Žernov Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral territory of Chvojenec. It was established by Regulation 3/2015 of the Pardubice Region; the regulation has been effective since July 1, 2015, and remains valid. The area includes an oak-hornbeam forest on the slopes of Žernov Hill, as well as the Mordýř and Šmatlán ponds at its foot. The surroundings of the ponds near Chvojenec are characterized by natural wetland and forest vegetation.
Cycling routes and sports
The marked cycle route 4120 from Opatovice nad Labem to Dašice runs directly through Chvojenec. The marked cycle route 4236 from Vysoké Chvojno to Dolní Ředice also runs directly through the village. Cyclists can use two rest areas in Chvojenec, equipped with seating and an information board.
Entry to the multifunctional sports court in Chvojenec is free of charge; a reservation is required in advance. It can be reserved for tennis, nohejbal, volleyball, or basketball.
Events
The children's carnival is a regular traditional event in Chvojenec. Setkání s Mikulášem and Čarodějnice are also regular traditional events there.
