The forest complex north and east of Holotín is part of a migration corridor for specially protected large mammals. The wider surroundings of Holotín lie in the foothills of the Železné hory and are characterized by a gently rolling landscape with streams and ponds.

The Zabloudil pond lies on the Mlýnský potok at the edge of the Holotín cadastral area; it covers 16,534 m². Višňovka Hill [Podhořany u Ronova] is located in the immediate vicinity of Holotín. The surrounding area also includes the hill (Vápenka) [Litošice], Krkanka Mountain, and Bučina Mountain.

History and Townscape

The name Holotín means “Holota’s farm.” The surname Holota derives from an Old Czech word for a keeper of hunting dogs. The first documented mention of Holotín dates from 1405.

Holotín is one of the places with a high-quality preserved landscape character. This includes the urban structure, the architecture of the buildings, and the vertical structure of the development. The Church of Svatý Jiří is also located in the vicinity of Holotín; in the wider regional area lies Zámek Kačina Castle.

Road connections link Holotín with Heřmanův Městec, Chrudim, Přelouč, and Pardubice. Holotín has no sidewalks or separate cycle paths; cyclists share roadways and local roads with other vehicles.
