Culture and History

The All Saints Church in Bělá nad Svitavou is a Baroque church built between 1751 and 1770.

The main altar of the All Saints Church is decorated with a painting by the painter Josef Scheivl. The church also contains a fresco from 1928 depicting Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia distributing bread to poor people.

Near the entrance to the sacristy of the All Saints Church stands a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1768. In front of the All Saints Church stands a stone cross from 1811. The monument to the victims of the First World War stands in a lime-tree park near the All Saints Church. The sacred monuments and memorial sites differ in their historical context and can be considered separate subjects.

The traditional pilgrimage in Bělá nad Svitavou takes place every year on the third Sunday after Easter on the occasion of the consecration of the All Saints Church. In 2026, the pilgrimage included amusement rides and other fairground attractions for children and adults.

The grave of the paratrooper Ivan Banděrev is located in the local cemetery of Bělá nad Svitavou. The mass grave in the cemetery contains 42 Jewish people who died during transport from Poland to Schindler’s factory in Brněnec.

Čertova díra is a 115-metre-long and 12-metre-deep pseudokarst fissure cave in Cretaceous marlstones of the Jizera Formation. It is one of the longest caves of this type in the Czech Republic formed in Cretaceous rock.

One of the three entrances to Čertova díra cave is located in a rock wall shaped by quarrying approximately 40 metres above the valley floor of the Bělský Stream valley.
