Běhařov lies in the foothills of the Šumava Mountains, where the Šumava meets the Český les, on the left bank of the Úhlava and in the shelter of Pohoří Hill.

Culture and History

Běhařov Castle was used by Alois Kalvoda as a summer painting school specialising in landscape painting. The castle is not open to the public. The Church of St Procopius in Běhařov is a small early Gothic church dating from the period after the mid-13th century. It has three altars; the high altar features a Baroque statue of St Procopius.

The mountains Jezvinec, Úliště [Javor - Loučany] and Stangenruck are located in the vicinity of Běhařov. In the wider regional area around Běhařov lies the Bayerwald-Tierpark Lohberg, a zoo. The mountain Lovečná is also located in the wider regional area around Běhařov.

Cycling

From the village square in Běhařov, there is a connection to cycle route 2089. Cycle route 2052 runs via Úborsko and Bystřice nad Úhlavou to Nýrsko. Several circular routes pass through Běhařov and the surrounding villages: the Úborsko–Běhařov–Dobrá Voda–Svatá Markéta–Veselí–Klenová–Úborsko circular route is 22 km long, the Běhařov–Pocinovice–Orlovice–Orlovická Hora–Jezvinec–Nýrsko–Úborsko–Běhařov circular route is 25 km long, and the Úborsko–Běhařov–Dobrá Voda–Libkov–Modlín–Loučim–Koráb and back circular route is 30 km long.

In the vicinity of the municipalities, paved paths can be used for trips into nature with views of the Šumava, the Strážovské vrchy, the Český les and the Úhlava Valley.
