Hostouň: Hotels and Accommodation

The Czech section of the Way of St. James leads from Bělá nad Radbuzou through Hostouň, where it reaches the Church of St. James, and continues via Přes towards Kladruby. The church has been documented in writing since 1369; the present Baroque building may contain masonry from an older church and is decorated with wall paintings. Its tower bears three bells dated 1453, 1516 and 1562. An information board in Hostouň provides a detailed description of the Way of St. James; the ceremonial unveiling of an information board in Hostouň took place on 1 May 2009.

History

The former fortress in Hostouň lost its function as a seat of the estate in 1656 and was converted into a château in the 18th century. Hostouň Château formerly served as a hunting lodge and later as the residence of the widowed Princess Anna Trauttmannsdorfová.

During the Second World War, the Lipizzaner breeding facility in Hostouň was tasked with training stallions for the Spanish Riding School in Vienna.

Culture

Hostouň is home to a Baroque statue dating from 1722, which underwent conservation treatment in 2021.
