Kožlany: Hotels and Accommodation
Kožlany brings together Czechoslovak history, a local pottery tradition that has survived to this day, sacred heritage and an educational trail. Eduard Beneš, the second president of Czechoslovakia, was born in Kožlany in 1884.
History and Culture
The Church of St Lawrence is considered the oldest building in Kožlany. The church has three naves, a western tower and a polygonal presbytery. The protected complex includes the church, a mortuary, the surrounding wall with two gates and a wicket, a cast-iron cross and the plots of the site.
The older history of the town includes the former Angerbach Castle. Its two-part ground plan was protected by a rampart and a moat; a wooden bridge over the moat led into its rear section. Angerbach dates from around the middle of the 13th century.
Nature and Educational Trail
The Naučná stezka Kožlany educational trail is six kilometres long and marked in both directions with the standard symbol for educational trails – a white square with a green diagonal. Its route includes Hliny, a flooded former site where ceramic clay was extracted. Plant and animal communities dependent on wet habitats thrive here.
Jewish Heritage
The Jewish cemetery in the vicinity of Kožlany was established by the end of the 17th century at the latest; the oldest documented burial dates from 1698. The cemetery contains 175 gravestones and served as a burial place for Jews from surrounding villages from the early 18th century until the 1930s. It is freely accessible.
During the restoration, the surrounding wall, the entrance gate and the Beit Tahara mortuary with its tahara table were repaired.
Routes
The project involves building a new mixed-use, barrier-free route for pedestrians and cyclists between Kralovice and Kožlany. It is intended to provide a safe connection along the busy Class II road.
