Nekmíř: Hotels and Accommodation

Nekmíř lies in the Plaská pahorkatina geomorphological region, which forms the central part of the Plzeňská pahorkatina.

History and Townscape

The monumental central palace of the medieval fortress corresponds to the north wing of the Zámek Nekmíř castle complex. The Chapel of St Anne, dating from the 19th century, stands in the centre of the village. Nekmíř is also home to a statue of St John of Nepomuk dating from the second quarter of the 18th century.

The Jan Žižka Battle Memorial was unveiled on 28 July 2017 and commemorates the battle of 1419, in which Jan Žižka first used wagons as a fortification. The history of Nekmíř is also associated with the first documented use of wagons as a fortification in the Bohemian region. This was an improvisation, not yet the use of classic heavy war wagons.

Nature and Landscape

The landscape around Nekmíř is predominantly characterised by mixed forests; among the coniferous trees, pine is dominant. The Bažantnice Nature Reserve encompasses a valuable mixed forest complex with rich herbaceous undergrowth and a stream valley landscape.

Plot No. 1381/1 lies northwest of Nekmíř on the boundary of the Bažantnice Nature Reserve and partly extends into it.

Paths and Orientation

A marked local cycle route passes through Nekmíř. During a walk in the woods around Nekmíř, you may come across pits that are reminders of the short-lived coal mining in the 19th century.

The Žižkův památník is freely accessible year-round and can be reached via a dirt track between the new buildings of Nekmíř.
