Kornatice: Hotels and accommodation
Kornatice can be explored through medieval traces, nature trails, cycling connections and recurring village festivals. The individual places and routes reveal different sides of the village and its immediate surroundings.
Routes and nature trails
A preserved section of a medieval cart track forms part of the F. X. France nature trail. The trail was extended in 2013 and has since ended in Kornatice, at Kornatice railway station. It introduces visitors to prehistoric and medieval remains in the former cultural landscape and features footbridges and rest areas.
The “Okolím Kornatic” nature trail begins at the cultural centre in Kornatice and is intended especially for families with children as an easy walk in the surroundings of Kornatice. It is a circular route requiring little time, with eight stops, information boards and specific tasks.
Nature and history
The Kornatice chapel is the oldest building in the village; its exact age has not yet been determined. The chapel and the memorial to the inhabitants who fell in the First World War are surrounded by century-old lime trees. Veský rybník pond lies directly on the edge of Kornatice.
A 130-metre-long section of the historic access road to Lopata Castle has been preserved in the surroundings of Kornatice. The remains of the medieval village of Javor have also been preserved in the area in the form of slightly raised, hill-like structures and shallow depressions near small water reservoirs.
Cycling connections
The marked cycling route 2039 leads from Šťáhlavy via Kornatice, Mešno and Lipnice to Spálené Poříčí. A connection between two cycling routes runs directly through Kornatice.
Annual festivals
The Municipality of Kornatice organises Masopust every year together with Sdružení pro Kornatice. During Masopust in Kornatice, a masked procession accompanied by music moves through the village and visits the houses after first asking the mayor for permission.
Slet čarodějnic in Kornatice takes place every year on 30 April. It includes a costumed procession through the village, a ritual around a bonfire and refreshments. The Municipality of Kornatice also organises the Kornatické slavnosti every year.
The Slavnosti léta include changing exhibitions, some of which are also offered for sale. They include demonstrations of historic bicycles in period costumes.
