Maňovice: Hotels and Accommodation

On the village square in Maňovice stands the hexagonal Chapel of St. Bartholomew with a pyramid roof. On the outskirts of Maňovice, the artificially shaped Maňovický drak rises from a rock; it was created by working a stone that protruded from a bend in the road to Pačejov.

Culture

The chapel on the village square in Maňovice is an example of small-scale vernacular religious architecture from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Together with the nearby wayside shrine, it forms a valuable complex.

The Maňovice wayside shrine is a Baroque column shrine made of local granite and consists of seven parts. It stands on a specially fenced, park-like plot in front of the village chapel and an old cellar. It was built in 1713; its construction was probably connected with a plague epidemic.

The Maňovický drak was completed and consecrated in 1905. A stone enclosure with a wrought-iron fence around the dragon’s head was built in 1926. According to local legend, the stone dragon once lived in the rocks above the village; a witch turned it to stone, and later a consecrated cross was inserted into its head.

Nature

In the wider regional surroundings of Maňovice lies the ruin of the Radomysl Mediumwave Radio Mast. The Buzrakov mountain (Plánický hřeben) is located near Maňovice. The nearby surroundings also include Kbelík Hill [Velký Bor - Jetenovice], Vrchy Hill [Chanovice-Defurovy Lažany], and Boubínský Hill [Horažďovice - Horažďovická Lhota].

The Maňovice Educational Trail begins at a junction in the southern part of Maňovice and ends there again as a circular route. The easy 3.5-kilometre trail leads from Maňovice via the Maňovický drak and Prasecký les back to Maňovice.
