Rabí: Hotels and Accommodation

Rabí combines the history of a large castle complex with the landscape of the hilly Otava Valley and routes to other historic sites.

History and Culture

Rabí Castle developed from a watchtower built in the mid-14th century into a large castle complex and served as the residence of the Lords of Rýzmberk until the end of the 17th century. Rabí Castle currently offers guided tours and various cultural events.

The Castle Church of the Holy Trinity has largely retained its Late Gothic appearance, although later centuries influenced it through structural alterations. The Church of the Holy Trinity is currently not open to the public; however, its lower level is opened as an exhibition space during the summer months.

The Rabí Museum of Crafts offers insight, through the private collection of collector Petr Balcar, into the traditional crafts that shaped Šumava and the foothills of Šumava at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Landscape and Nature

From the massive residential tower, the donjon of Rabí Castle, there are views across the entire Prácheňský kraj. The hilly Otava Valley near Rabí, with its landscape views and pastures, offers many opportunities for easy hikes and cycling trips.

The tourist circular routes around Rabí include a walk to Čepičná, which is designated as a protected natural site and is named as a destination for a walk from Rabí. Čepičná is a protected natural area on calcareous ground, particularly around outcrops of crystalline limestone; several protected, rare calcicolous and thermophilous plant species occur there.
