Šerkovice: Hotels and Accommodation
Šerkovice is surrounded by coniferous and mixed forests on almost all sides. The picturesque, hilly surroundings with numerous forests and strongly varied terrain give the village a distinctive landscape character.
Nature and Landscape
The Besének stream flows through Šerkovice from north to south. A London plane (Platanus x hispanica), a hybrid of the Oriental and Western plane, stands along its course. It is the only specimen of its kind in the municipality and a defining natural feature along the Besének. Šerkovice is also considered a tourist gateway to the Svratecká hornatina Nature Park.
Cycling and Hiking Trails
Since 1999, a main cycle route connecting Brno and Prague has run through Šerkovice. A pleasant walk called Obora leads through the valley of the Besének stream towards Lomnice. The hike “Od rozhledny Klucanina po Květnici” also passes through Šerkovice and includes the village as one of its designated waypoints.
The Tišnovská pivní stezka passes a tourist shelter in Šerkovice and stops at the Chapel of Saint Anne.
Culture and History
The former fruit-drying house, house no. 47, is part of the local architectural and cultural history. It is a state-protected monument from the 19th century and is currently used as a private recreational property. There is also the Chapel of Saint Giles. The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius has stood in a corner of the former school building since 1895.
The former forester’s lodge by Paní Hora Forest was built by the Porta Coeli Monastery in 1900 and was converted into a memorial to the Jermak partisan unit between 1980 and 1990. A base of the Jermak partisan detachment was located in the surrounding forests. Šerkovice is also home to the “Památník v Šerkovicích”, a memorial site dedicated to the JERMAK partisan unit.
The Statek U Kašpárků estate is a valuable historic property with a former mill and a former sawmill. The exterior has been preserved, and some parts of the original interior furnishings have also survived.
