The Šumický rybník nature reserve was designated in 1998 in the cadastral area of Šumice. The Šumické rybníky area is an important breeding ground and a significant stopover site for migratory birds. It is also home to a significant population of the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina).

History and Village Character

The oldest surviving written mention of a farmstead in Šumice dates from 1365. The larger historic part of Šumice belonged to the Rosa Coeli Monastery in Kounice. In 1443, the larger historic part of Šumice came into the possession of Louka Monastery.
