Zbýšov U Brna: Hotels and accommodations

Historic steam and motor trains run from Zbýšov to Zastávka u Brna and back. Zbýšov also has a permanent exhibition on the history of the Zbýšov railway. The development of mining can be placed in chronological context at the Simson mine: work began in 1848, and it was put into operation in 1853.

The headframe of the Simson mine is an architectural and technical monument. It documents the industrial development of the Rosice–Oslavany hard-coal basin in the 19th century. During the operating dates of the narrow-gauge railway, the Vlastivědný spolek Zbýšov usually opens the Simson Mining Museum, which it manages, and offers explanations by its guides. Part of the mining museum exhibition in Zbýšov opened in May 2017.

The present-day Neo-Romanesque Church of St Martin was built in 1893–1894 on the site of an earlier church mentioned in an episcopal decree of 1676. Two bells have survived in the tower to this day: the larger dates from 1652, while the smaller dates from 1762. One of the existing altars is dedicated to St Barbara, the patron saint of miners.

The Zbýšov spoil heap was created in the 20th century through the gradual deposition of waste material from local hard-coal mining. It is more than 40 m high, 500 m long, and 250 m wide. The southern slope offers panoramic views of the town and the surrounding landscape towards Padochov and Oslavany. The summit can be reached via an unmarked path from the end of Havířská Street.

A circular trail around Zbýšov provides an opportunity to learn more about the town’s mining past. The trail is approximately 10 km long and follows local trail markings with two loops, one larger and one smaller. The Stezka permoníků circuit passes through rolling terrain, along paths with far-reaching views, and through shady forests.

Near Zbýšov, Rybičková skála is currently designated as a protected natural feature. It forms a continuous rocky gorge in the valley of the Neslovický potok, to the left of the road between Neslovice and Zbýšov. During investigations, approximately 200 remains of ray-finned fish as well as an insect wing were recovered from the eastern edge of the outcrop and from a site located about 300 m to the south.
