Budyně Nad Ohří: Hotels and accommodations

Budyně nad Ohří is home to the medieval water castle Vodní hrad Budyně nad Ohří. The Jandovo Museum is housed there. It features an alchemical workshop and a laboratory in rooms where alchemical experiments were conducted in the 16th century. A visit to the museum also includes a tour route through the castle’s interiors. At Vodní hrad Budyně nad Ohří, you can also see a preserved Nile crocodile that was brought to the Budyně estate at the beginning of the 16th century.

Culture and history

The Lapidarium is also part of the city’s cultural character. It is a permanent outdoor exhibition of the Budyně nad Ohří City Gallery and presents a collection of stone sculptures that form part of Budyně nad Ohří’s cultural heritage. As an outdoor venue, it gives visitors the opportunity to see historical artifacts.

The synagogue in Budyně nad Ohří was built in 1786–1787 in the Rococo style with Classicist elements after the former synagogue was destroyed in a major fire in 1783. Today, the restored synagogue serves as a cultural center for exhibitions, lectures, and concerts.

The Church of St. Wenceslas is medieval in origin and a distinctive building on the main square of Budyně nad Ohří. Its western façade is decorated with sculptures, and it also has a massive square tower. Budyně nad Ohří also has an urban conservation area.

The protected buildings include a two-arch sandstone bridge built in 1770–1773. The grounds of the Church of Our Lady of the Snows include a Baroque ossuary chapel. The Church of Our Lady of the Snows is both a distinctive sacred building and a prominent landmark in the landscape.

Nature and trails

The Naučná stezka Malá Ohře is an approximately 3-kilometer-long educational trail with six information panels. It follows the Malá Ohře to its confluence with the Ohře and to the place known as Špička. Along the way, the trail introduces visitors to the natural beauty, history, and present-day character of the Budyňsko area.

Cycle Route 6 between Kostelec nad Ohří and Doksany also passes through Budyně nad Ohří.

Events

“Budyňský poutník” is a recurring folk music event held on the grounds of Vodní hrad Budyně nad Ohří. The traditional pilgrimage in Budyně associated with “Budyňský poutník” is traced back there to the 16th century.
