Hora Svatého Šebestiána: Hotels and Accommodation

Hora Svatého Šebestiána combines traces of a historic mining town with long-distance trails; the Prameniště Chomutovky Nature Reserve, characterized mainly by a raised bog, lies in the surrounding area. The town reveals itself in different ways through preserved architectural details, memorial sites and hiking routes.

History and Monuments

Hora Svatého Šebestiána was probably founded in the first half of the 16th century as a mining town on the Chomutov estate. In 1597, Emperor Rudolf II elevated the town to a royal mining town.

Historical buildings include the former town hall and courthouse, a building constructed around 1800 in the Empire style. Above its portal is a cartouche bearing the town coat of arms. At the northern edge of the town stands the 1908 Trinity Column. It is a copy of an older Baroque work and was declared a cultural monument in 2022.

The local memorial to the victims of the Second World War commemorates 110 fallen soldiers and residents. Near the Hora Svatého Šebestiána–Reitzenhain border crossing, the Stülpnerův pomník also commemorates Karl Stülpner, who is considered the most famous poacher of the Ore Mountains. The former Church of St. Sebastian was blown up on 25 March 1967.

The townscape also still reflects the area’s railway history: the railway bridge near Hora Svatého Šebestiána was part of railway line No. 137 Křimov–Reitzenhain. Today, only the outer abutments of the former railway bridge remain.

Hiking and Long-Distance Trails

Hora Svatého Šebestiána has two modern wooden tourist shelters with emergency overnight accommodation. They opened in April 2026 and serve as official infrastructure for the Stezka Českem and Hřebenovka long-distance trails. Each of the two shelters can accommodate four people; overnight stays are on your own sleeping mat and in your own sleeping bag.

The 143-kilometre eastern Hřebenovka Krušné hory passes through Hora Svatého Šebestiána as a stage or junction point. Along its entire length, it follows a red-marked trail. Another historic route is the Pochod smrti na Chomutovsku memorial trail. It begins in Hora Svatého Šebestiána, is approximately 17 kilometres long, runs mostly downhill and ends in Chomutov, in Horní Ves or at the town cemetery.

The Prameniště Chomutovky Nature Reserve, characterized mainly by a raised bog, lies in the surrounding area of Hora Svatého Šebestiána. Fishing is possible at the municipal ponds in Hora Svatého Šebestiána with a permit issued by the municipal office.
