Měrunice is located in the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area, near Class II road 257, which connects Bílina and Louny.

Landscape

Vraník and other hills on the horizon form the impressive southern backdrop of Měrunice. To the southwest, the rounded Dobský hřbet closes off and clearly delineates the landscape around Žichov and Měrunice.

About 300 m south of Měrunice lies the small hill of Granátka. Towards the end of the Tertiary period, Granátka was a volcano. Opalescent serpentinites still occur there today; because of their characteristic colour, they are known as garnets.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Stanislav is one of the most valuable sights in Měrunice and is now an important cultural monument. Martin Vchyňský was the patron of the Church of Saint Stanislav in 1386.

North of Žichov, near the Lužice II reservoir, lies the Žichov fortified site on a flat spur bordered by the water surface and the Žichovský stream. The Žichov fortified site is a fortification dating from the 13th century, first mentioned in 1239.

The fortified manor house in Měrunice was first mentioned in 1295 and remains part of a farmstead to this day.

Community Life

A community ball (Obecní ples) was held in Měrunice in 2024, 2025, and 2026.
