Hotel in Jarohněvice – Cultural Heritage and Landscape in Haná

Visible remains of a semicircular rampart and moat associated with the Lusatian Urnfield culture have survived in the Jarohněvice area.

Landscape

Jarohněvice lies on the southern slope of the shallow Kotojedka valley and on the edge of the fertile Haná region. The first hills of the Chřiby area rise from the edge of Haná. Thus, a flat valley, a fertile landscape and the beginning of a hilly area meet within the village locality.

Culture and History

The fortification on the slope of Obora (Hvězda) offers a view of the course of the Kotojedka and has yielded Early La Tène stamped pottery finds. An early medieval barrow cemetery is located in the Hvězda woodland east of Jarohněvice. A wayside shrine stands near a stream on the road from Jarohněvice to Šelešovice. It was probably erected to commemorate the tragic death of the Jarohněvice shepherd Ondra in a brickyard in 1700.

At the lower end of Jarohněvice, a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands by the bridge over the Kotojedka. In the Přední díly fields, a stone cross with a relief of Saint Donatus stands at a crossroads of field paths. The bell tower of Jarohněvice stands on a small rise at the widest part of the village green by the road; the municipality erected it in 1740 or shortly before. On the village green of Jarohněvice, a statue of the Virgin Mary stands by the road near house number 23. The cultural event “Jarohněvické dvory” was named with the aim of being held annually.

Getting Around

Buses run from Jarohněvice, making a connection towards Kroměříž possible. Cycle route number 5020 runs through the cadastral area of Jarohněvice. On the route through the Obora (Hvězda) forest, it is about 400 metres from the forest edge with the Mohylník barrow cemetery to the railway station in the direction of Jarohněvice.
