Discover Lúčky: Bobbin-Lace Tradition, Churches and Mountain Landscape

Lúčky preserves a bobbin-lace tradition closely connected with the village. The State Bobbin-Lace Workshop was founded in Lúčky in 1893. Its surviving building is designated as a cultural monument, and bobbin lace was produced in Lúčky until the end of the Second World War.

Culture

One of the most distinctive religious buildings is the Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas. It was built in 1487, stands within a fortified complex in the centre of Lúčky and has Gothic entrance portals. The Protestant church in Lúčky, by contrast, was built in 1823 in the Neoclassical style. The architectural character is complemented by a Neo-Gothic wayside chapel from the late 19th century.

The turn-off for Educational Trail No. 1b also leads to a historic site: the ruins of the Church of the Holy Cross, built in 1734, can be reached via this turn-off. Educational Trail No. 1b runs as a branch trail along the slope above Lúčky.

History

The village’s history is also reflected in its settlement form and building stock. Historic miners’ houses with characteristic arcaded passageways have been preserved in Lúčky. Traditional chain-like settlement development is another characteristic feature of the village. The historic building stock includes wooden houses and masonry houses from the 19th century with hipped or gabled shingle roofs.

Nature

Lúčky lies in the valley of the Lúčanský stream and at the same time in the valley of the Homola stream below Mount Jarabica. The higher parts of Lúčky’s municipal territory form broad ridges on less resistant andesite. Thus, the two stream valleys and the geological formations of the higher parts of the municipality exist side by side, without this requiring the landscape to be classified as a single uniform type.
