Dolná Ves is situated in the Jastrabská vrchovina at the confluence of the Rudnica and Švábsky potok rivers. The surrounding area is characterized by hilly terrain and a pleasant natural landscape.

History

The oldest written mention of Dolná Ves is associated with the year 1429; at that time, the village was referred to by the name Schwabendorff. King Sigismund pledged Dolná Ves, together with Horná Ves, Lúčky and Kunešov, to the town of Kremnica. Historically, the main economic activities in Dolná Ves included agriculture, forestry and mining. Dolná Ves also historically served Kremnica as a raw-material base for ceramic production. In 1695, Kremnica received the right to levy a bridge toll in Dolná Ves.

Further events mark different periods in the village's history: in 1627, Dolná Ves was plundered by the Turks. In 1852, the inhabitants of Dolná Ves witnessed the ceremonial reception of the entourage of Emperor Franz Joseph I. In spring 2005, a coin was excavated in the Na záhumní field on the southern side of Brezový vrch in Dolná Ves.

Culture

The memorial to the victims of the Slovak National Uprising and the Second World War commemorates 14 partisans who fell during the Slovak National Uprising. The war memorial in Dolná Ves stands in the village center, at the edge of a park next to the municipal office and Culture House No. 81. The Church of P. Márie in Dolná Ves was extended between 1928 and 1930.
