Kosorín: Hotel and Cultural Monuments Around St. Ladislaus

A particularly specific local landmark in Kosorín is St. Ladislaus Church. It is registered as an immovable cultural monument under number Ss/1235 in the ÚZKP, is considered the oldest monument in Kosorín, and was built in the Classicist style. Reconstruction carried out between 1926 and 1928 gave it its present appearance. The church still contains a small bell dating from 1624. Its Latin inscription reads: “SOLI DEO ET HONOR ET GLORIA ANNO DOMINI J-624”.

Culture

A monument in the cemetery of Kosorín commemorates 42 partisans and three residents who lost their lives in the fields of Kosorín between September 24 and 26, 1944. The T34 tank is also among the significant monuments of Kosorín.

Two legends are also associated with Kosorín. One tells of a skilled scythe maker who sold scythes to royal mowers and also made them as weapons. According to the legend, people used them to defend themselves against the Turks. The story thus connects the craft of the scythe maker, the sale to royal mowers, and the use of scythes as weapons in a single traditional narrative.

Nature

Kosorín lies on the northern edge of the Žiarska kotlina basin, which is located in the Kremnické vrchy Mountains. The elevation in Kosorín ranges from 352 to 931 metres; the centre of the village lies at 370 metres. The Kosorínsky potok stream flows through the village. There it joins the Klokočský potok and later flows into the Lutilský potok.

Kosorín can be reached via a third-class road through Janova Lehota or Slaská; in addition, a narrow country road leads from Kosorín to Lutila.
