Braväcovo can be read directly through its preserved village character: numerous old wooden houses have survived, many of them now used as holiday homes. Alongside the landscape, this places a visibly preserved architectural and usage tradition at the centre. Nature

Braväcovo lies on the southern slopes of the central section of the Low Tatras. At 1,544 metres, Beňuška is the highest peak in the cadastral area of Braväcovo; locally, it is also called Käčka. A green-marked hiking trail leads through Braväcovo to this peak. The Low Tatras National Park is part of the protected area around Braväcovo.

History

By the end of the 16th century, Braväcovo existed as a chamber lumberjack settlement. The designation “chamber lumberjack settlement” refers to the end of the 16th century; according to tradition, however, the joint founding of Braväcovo, Podholie and Srnkovo is placed in the 16th century. According to tradition, Braväcovo and the settlements of Podholie and Srnkovo were founded in the 16th century by German miners and Polish charcoal burners. Another architectural reference is Pension Schweintaal: it was built in 2007 in the traditional style of Slovak folk architecture.

Culture

The small amphitheatre in Braväcovo was ceremonially opened on 28 August 1999 and serves as a venue for cultural events for the municipality and its residents. Braväcovo and the surrounding region are also associated with the BKZ Bukovinka association, an organisation dedicated to developing and disseminating traditional folk culture. The Na Bielych Handľoch folklore festival takes place in Braväcovo every year in July; it also includes a market for folk products and traditional crafts. A hiking ascent of Bukovinská skala is known as “Bukovinka na Bukovinke”.

Winter

A cross-country ski route connects Braväcovo with the Čertovica mountain pass. It runs along the southern slope of Beňuška and has the greatest elevation difference among the cross-country ski trails at Čertovica.

There is a bus connection from Braväcovo to Brezno; train and bus connections are available in Beňuš.
