Bacúch: Hotels, Nature and Educational Trail

The Bacúch–Vyšná Boca educational trail is 14 kilometres long and takes approximately five and a half hours. It features five information panels about Bacúch, the Prameň Boženy Němcovej spring, the Podvrch locality, Bacúšske sedlo and Vyšná Boca. The educational trail also includes access to a former copper mine.

Nature and Landscape

The Nízke Tatry Natura 2000 site also covers the cadastral area of Bacúch. Bacúch’s protected areas include the Bacúšska Jelšina state nature reserve.

The mountains of Čertova Svadba, Fišerka, Blato and Zadnia Hoľa are located in the vicinity of Bacúch.

The Prameň Boženy Němcovej spring is a mineral water spring in the forest above Bacúch at an altitude of 635 metres. It lies on the northern edge of Bacúch along a blue-marked hiking trail leading to Bacúšske sedlo and the main ridge of the Low Tatras. The location of the spring thus connects the specific locality with a marked trail and the mentioned points in the mountain area.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Joseph in Bacúch was built in 1863 and renovated and extended in 1936. It has a main altar dating from 1863 with a painting by J. Jonáš depicting Bacúch and the transport of timber. The construction history, altar and painting thus refer to different aspects of the same church building.

Until 1953, the facility was used to store water. After it was filled, the water was released to increase the flow of the Hron for the timber rafts waiting there. Its use was therefore directly connected with the transport of timber on the river.
