Mýto pod Ďumbierom is located in the protected area of the Low Tatras National Park (NAPANT). In the Slovak mountain community, winter sports, cycling, hiking, historic churches and agricultural experiences are among the different facets of the area. MÝTO SKI & BIKE offers ski slopes and snowboarding opportunities with a total length of 4,600 metres. The facilities also include a ski school, rental service, and servicing for ski and bicycle equipment.
Nature
MÝTO SKI & BIKE is located near Mýto pod Ďumbierom on the road corridor from Banská Bystrica via Podbrezová and the Čertovica Pass towards Poprad. The location is therefore also connected to a clearly named route through the Low Tatras region. The protected surroundings of the national park provide the natural setting for the various activities mentioned in Mýto pod Ďumbierom and at the starting points described there.
Winter sports and cycling
MÝTO SKI & BIKE’s winter offering includes cross-country ski trails at Pohanské. These trails are 17 kilometres long in total. In summer, the offering comprises 6,600 metres of cycling trails, including four downhill trails and three children’s trails. In addition, the Dedečkova chata cycling route follows the yellow cycle route 8598 into Mýto pod Ďumbierom. Thus, within the same local context, differently designed routes for the warm and cold seasons are found side by side: ski slopes and snowboarding opportunities, cross-country ski trails, and cycling trails with downhill and children’s sections.
Hiking
The route to Ďumbier begins at the bus stop and car park in Mýto pod Ďumbierom. The route from Mýto pod Ďumbierom to Ďumbier leads via Pošova Mlynná, Chata gen. M. R. Štefánika and Krúpove sedlo. It is described as a difficult and strenuous full-day high-mountain tour. The specified starting points and intermediate stops, together with its characterization as a full-day tour, give the route to Ďumbier a clear course while also identifying its demanding nature.
Culture and crafts
The history of Mýto pod Ďumbierom includes two churches from the 19th century. The Evangelical church in Mýto pod Ďumbierom was built between 1822 and 1828. The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Matthew in Mýto pod Ďumbierom dates from 1840. In the first half of the 20th century, linen and cotton cloth as well as loden were woven in the area. Loden shoes were also made there for sale. Weaving and shoemaking therefore stand alongside the churches as other specifically named elements of the area’s history.
Experiences
At Ajax Farm in Mýto pod Ďumbierom, visitors can go horseback riding and ride ponies. Ajax Farm also has a mini-zoo with domestic animals such as sheep, goats, geese and cows. The two offerings represent different forms of a farm visit: riding and contact with the domestic animals listed above.
