Terany: Find a hotel along cycling route 032

Cycling route 032 runs through Terany and is named the Turčiansko–Kremnicko–Štiavnická cycling highway. From Dudince, it passes through Terany and Hontianske Tesáre before continuing to Svätý Anton. The route leads through fields, meadows and villages; along the way, it offers views of the surrounding landscape.

Terany lies at an altitude of 144 metres above sea level in a flat area at the transition between the Štiavnické vrchy, Krupinská planina and Ipeľská pahorkatina. The Štiavnička River flows through the village. The municipality is also characterised by its climate: it belongs to a warm zone with a moderately dry subclimate and mild winters.

Culture and history

Terany was established in 1944 through the merger of Dolné Terany and Horné Terany. The Church of Divine Mercy is also part of the village's history: construction began in 2002, and it was consecrated on 6 April 2013.

The historical livelihood in Terany was primarily agriculture; wine-growing was also practised. The local culture passed down through generations includes a traditional costume that formed a sub-variant of the Lišov costume. Thus, alongside the more recent church history, the village's agricultural and textile traditions are also central.

The individual parts of the village have a written history that reaches significantly further back. Horné Terany is mentioned as early as 1298 under the name TERYEN, while Dolné Terany is recorded in 1387 under the name KYSTERIJEN. Construction of a manor house in Terany began towards the end of the 19th century; its foundations appear to date from an earlier period.

The transport network is also characterised by two different routes. Road I/66/E77 runs through Terany and connects Budapest with Warsaw. It was formerly also known as “Magna via”. Railway line 119 complements Terany's transport network and is currently used exclusively for freight transport.
