Rykynčice: Churches, Trails and Hotels

Historic sacred buildings in Dolné Rykynčice and trails in the municipality give Rykynčice a distinctive profile. They are complemented by traditional culture, a long local history and the Feľata Arboretum.

Culture

The Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in Dolné Rykynčice was built in 1788. It is listed as a registered cultural monument under monument number 1093/1. The church contains a late Baroque polychrome wood-carved altar from 1792 and an organ from 1913.

The history of sacred architecture also includes the Chapel of the Holy Martyrs John and Paul in Predhorie in Dolné Rykynčice. It was built in 1776 in a vineyard east of the village. The chapel has a small tower and an altar with stone statues. In the past, Mass was celebrated there twice a year: on the feast days of Saints John and Paul and Saint Regina.

A connection with the neighbouring municipalities can be seen in the traditional costume. Dolné Rykynčice share it with Sebechleby, Hontianske Nemce and Domaníky; the same clothing was worn in these four Catholic municipalities. The cemetery in Dolné Rykynčice also preserves stone tombstones and wooden crosses made by folk artists. Several religious crosses still stand in Dolné Rykynčice, including in front of the church, in the cemetery, by Vrch potok, above Závoz and on Čiklov. There are also two brick crosses in front of private houses.

History

The local history is associated with an older name: Dolné Rykynčice has been mentioned as Rakucha since 1279 and has been documented since 1281.

Nature

The approximately 5 km long, easy Rykynčice Circular Trail runs around the municipality of Rykynčice. The Dudince–Rykynčice–Plášťovce cycle path also runs through the municipality; it is just under 27 km long and has an elevation gain of approximately 330 m. A hiking route leads from Plášťovce via Šípka, Planina Brezovo and the former Feľaťa Arboretum to Dolné Rykynčice and back to Plášťovce.

The Feľata Arboretum is located in the cadastral area of the municipality of Dolné Rykynčice and is 7 km from Dolné Rykynčice. Its official founding date is 25 November 1958. By the end of 1985, a total of 170 tree taxa had been recorded in the Feľata Arboretum, including 80 conifer and 90 broadleaf taxa.
