Čamovce lies in the eastern part of the Cerová vrchovina, in the valley of the Čamovský potok. The village is one of the Slovak municipalities within the Novohrad Geopark. Geology, forested areas, protected areas, historic buildings and transport connections shape the different aspects of the village.

Nature and Geology

The cadastral area of Čamovce consists of sandstones and young basalt scoria. It is covered by oak, beech and black locust forests. Its protected status can also be defined precisely in spatial terms: the Cerová vrchovina Protected Landscape Area extends into the cadastral area of Čamovce, while the Cerová vrchovina – forest habitats area (SKUEV0357) encompasses the cadastral area.

The Čamovský kameňolom quarry is particularly informative. It exposes the full thickness of a basalt flow. In the immediate subsurface, river gravels of the Belina Beds and, beneath them, obliquely bedded sandstones of the Jalovské Beds are exposed. The quarry is considered the most representative exposure of a lava flow in the Cerová vrchovina.

Routes through the Landscape

A cycling route leads through Čamovce and continues to Šurice. The cycling route passing through Čamovce runs through the Cerová vrchovina Protected Landscape Area. For hiking, the Fiľakovo–Belina–Hajnáčka route is documented; along its course, a mown meadow in the valley of the Čamovský potok is designated as a waypoint.

Culture and History

Historic buildings include the Roman Catholic Church of Kostol sv. Anjelov strážcov. It is a single-nave Classical building dating from 1846 and was remodelled in 1910 and 1946. Inside, it has a flat ceiling with a cove.

The oldest archaeological finds in Čamovce date from the Bronze Age. There is also a Classical manor house from the first half of the 19th century. The building has one storey and features a centrally positioned columned portico.

Transport

Čamovce has a bus stop. A railway line runs through the village; passenger trains operate from Čamovce to Lučenec and Fiľakovo.
