Landscape

Ľuboreč lies in a flat, basin-like widened valley of the Ľuboreč stream. The Ľuboreč water reservoir covers 65.5 hectares. The Lysec, an extinct volcano with volcanic rock formations, is also located within the cadastral area of Ľuboreč. Ľuboreč is described as a popular recreational area.

History and caves

About one kilometre north of Ľuboreč, two artificial cellar-like caves called “Tatárske pivnice” are located in the forest. The caves served as hiding places for the inhabitants during the period of the Ottoman wars. They are also located approximately one kilometre beyond Ľuboreč on a blue-marked hiking trail leading to the summit of Lysec.

The two approximate kilometre distances serve different orientation purposes: The first describes the location of the caves north of the settlement in the forest, while the second places them along the route of the blue-marked trail to the summit of Lysec. This preserves the historical use, architectural form and spatial context as separate pieces of information. The name “Tatárske pivnice” also refers to the traditional name of this site.

Memorial site

A memorial room in Ľuboreč presents Daniel Maróthy and Elena Maróthy Šoltésová using preserved documents. It contains photographs of Elena Maróthy Šoltésová as well as letters to her fellow women writers Terézia Vansová and Božena Slančíková Timrava. Elena Maróthy Šoltésová came to Ľuboreč at the age of six months and spent 20 years there.

The memorial room thus combines documents, photographs and letters with Elena Maróthy Šoltésová’s personal connection to the place. For visitors who, alongside the landscape, also take note of a place’s literary and biographical traces, the preserved materials are the focus of this memorial site. The people presented, the preserved documents and the period of Elena Maróthy Šoltésová’s life in Ľuboreč all belong to the same documented local history.

Evangelical church

In the eastern part of Ľuboreč, the Evangelical church stands on a slight hill. Inside, there are Gothic wall paintings from the late 14th century, possibly from 1385. The high altar is Baroque and dates from 1722.
