Hotels in Hradište: Nature, Culture and Routes to Jasenina

Hradište lies in the deep valley of the Držkovo stream at the foot of the Stolické vrchy. From here, a paved road leads into the Hradišské vrchy; after four kilometres, you must turn onto a hiking trail that leads from Málinec to Jasenina. The route to Jasenina is considered easy and is approximately ten kilometres long. It thus connects the locality with a landscape in which paths, forests and scattered settlement patterns are closely interconnected. The main impressions here come from the landscape, nature, local history and local tradition.

Landscape

The Hradišské vrchy feature a scattered settlement structure, preserved elements of the original architecture and richly structured landscape vegetation. The forests around Hradište are predominantly deciduous forests with oaks, beeches, hornbeams and Turkey oaks. Blackberries and rose hips grow on the slopes around Hradište; mushroom picking is another option. Wild animals that have returned to the forests around Hradište for permanent residence after a longer absence include bears, lynxes, wildcats and wolves.

Nature

Among the distinctive natural features are the protected Hradišské gaštany sweet chestnut trees. They grow at the back of the garden of house no. 127 in the cadastral area of Hradište pri Uhorskom in the Poltár District. The two protected trees are approximately 200 years old and 22 and 25 metres high, respectively. There is also an orchard near Hradište with predominantly high-quality apple varieties grown without chemical treatment. The orchard is looked after by the local civic association OZ PreHradište.

Culture

The local history is reflected in various traces of construction and settlement. A manor house in the Classicist style was built in Hradište in 1822. A Bronze Age hillfort is located in the Hrádok locality. The central evangelical church of Hradište is an Art Nouveau building with a hall floor plan and a tall projecting tower. Its furnishings include a neoclassical altar with the painting „Kristus na mori“ by the painter František Gyurkovits from Lučenec.

Church and Tradition

Services are held every third Sunday in the evangelical church of Hradište. The chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus stands in the scattered settlements around Hradište; an annual church feast, known as an odpust, is held there on the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Hradište's historical craft traditions include wheelmaking and the production of wooden tableware.

Local Life

Local association activities are also part of the character of the place. The association OZ PreHradište lists a tasting of homemade wines among the events it funds and organises. The association also looks after the orchard with predominantly high-quality apple varieties grown without chemical treatment.
