Since its establishment in 1833, the Zlatno glassworks has been particularly known for producing luxury glass, including exclusive sets in the Biedermeier and Neoclassical styles. The technologist and artist Leo Valentín Pantoček worked at the glassworks, where in 1856 he invented the world's first unique technique for irising glass surfaces. In 1958, the Zlatá Zuzana collection represented Slovak glassmaking and the Zlatno glassworks at the major World Expo in Brussels.

The area around Zlatno is hilly to mountainous, with elevations ranging from 270 to 1,000 m above sea level. Granite rocks and crystalline schists occur in the Zlatno area. Most of the area around Zlatno is covered by coniferous, deciduous, and mixed forests. The terrain, elevation, rock formations, and vegetation therefore emerge as distinct characteristics of this natural area.

Road II/595 runs through the centre of Zlatno. Public passenger transport in Zlatno is provided by rail and bus services. The road network and public passenger transport thus form two distinct, clearly identified parts of the village structure.
