Hucín between Karst Landscape and Local History

Hucín is located in the eastern part of the Slovak Karst on a terrace area in the valley of the Muráň and Rybník streams. The terrain, waterways and surrounding landscape are all relevant for the geographical classification of the village.

Landscape

The western part of the municipality of Hucín is forested on the floodplain, while the southern part is characterised by a limestone hill landscape. Comparing the two areas reveals two different landscape forms within the municipality.

Culture

A permanent exhibition of historical clothing from the municipality and household appliances is located in the former distillery building of Hucín, in the municipal community centre. The former distillery in Hucín was converted into a municipal museum.

The Reformed Church in Hucín dates from the first half of the 14th century. The local history of Hucín includes pottery as a former occupation of its inhabitants.

Sports days are regularly held in Hucín in summer. The tradition of St Nicholas celebrations has been revived. On 15 March, celebrations related to the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 take place in Hucín.
