Dubovec lies in the southern part of the Rimavská kotlina basin, on a terrace on the left bank of the Rimava. The village combines this precise location with a diverse landscape, a protected natural area and traces of cultural history.

Landscape

The landscape around Dubovec comprises a river plain and hilly terrain with pronounced terraces along the Rimava. Flat and more heavily structured landforms therefore form part of a shared landscape here. The substratum around Dubovec consists of Tertiary marls, claystones and sandstones. These materials are covered by river deposits and loess loams. The geological structure adds a second, subsurface level to the visible landforms: in addition to the river area and terraces, different rocks and cover layers also shape the described local landscape.

Nature

The cadastral area of Dubovec is part of the Cerová vrchovina a Rimavská kotlina Natura 2000 site. Within the Cerová vrchovina a Rimavská kotlina protected area, warm and dry conditions provide suitable habitats for the breeding and survival of woodlarks, Eurasian scops owls and European bee-eaters. The bird species mentioned are therefore associated with a natural area whose conditions are explicitly described as warm and dry.

The Rimava also appears in a specific winter observation. During a winter waterbird count on the section of the Rimava between Dubovec and Jesenské, one grey heron, 262 mallards and one grey wagtail were observed. The count therefore referred to a clearly defined section of the river and not to the entire cadastral area in general.

Culture and History

Dubovec originally belonged to Blh Castle. A statue of Saint John from 1787 stands in Dubovec’s square. Both references anchor the village’s history in its former affiliation with a castle and in a specifically dated monument in a public space.

St. Ladislaus Church in Dubovec was originally a Gothic church from the 14th century. In the mid-18th century, it was given a Baroque makeover and a new vault. Its furnishings include a Rococo pulpit with sculptures of the Evangelists. Its architectural history thus encompasses its Gothic origins in the 14th century and the Baroque alteration in the mid-18th century; the Rococo pulpit with sculptures of the Evangelists complements the furnishings.

Public Transport

The official timetable for bus route 510 lists the stop “Dubovec, OcÚ”. A specific stop name is therefore documented in the timetable for the public transport connection.

This allows differences between the options to be assessed objectively, while the respective conditions for costs and flexibility remain visible. The information on the respective offer page is authoritative.
