Rumince is located in the Rimavská kotlina Basin in the valley of the Slaná River. The area surrounding Rumince comprises meadows, pastures, arable land, forests and scrubland. Thus, both open spaces and land used for agriculture, as well as vegetated areas, form part of the village’s spatial setting.

Culture and History

Kláštorný kopec marks the site of the original village of Rumince. An important historical landmark is the Reformed Gothic church: it stands on the site of a 13th-century church, dates from the 15th century and was rebuilt several times in the 18th and 19th centuries. A historicist façade has been preserved. Several chronological layers can therefore be distinguished in this building: the site points to the 13th century, the Gothic origins to the 15th century, while the later alterations document the church’s subsequent development. This sequence makes the different construction phases within its history visible and places the surviving architectural features in their chronological context.

The Reformed congregation in Rumince has been a mother church since 1521. In 1743, a gallery was built in the church. Thus, the church comprises not only its Gothic form and preserved façade, but also a succession of specific architectural and congregational features spanning several centuries.

Rumince is home to a Baroque manor house dating from the mid-18th century. In addition, Rumince has a late Baroque noble manor house from the mid-18th century, which is in very poor condition. One of the manors has a portico with four columns, a tympanum pediment and an open loggia on its main façade.

The local history of music is also associated with a specific date: in 1897, a 35-member choir was founded in Rumince under the direction of the teacher Jozef Varga.

Local Life

Rumince has a newly established park and a recreation zone. On August 17, 2024, a cooking competition took place in Rumince. Both references supplement the architectural and landscape features with more recent elements of the village and an event from local life.
