Hrachovo combines a former castle, a Renaissance manor house, several churches and the Svetlianska cerina nature reserve. Hrachovo also has a bus stop. Historical landmarks, nature and a designated MTB route thus stand side by side as different facets of the town.

Culture

The former castle of Hrachovo was built on a hill in the first half of the 15th century. Part of a late Gothic window from the castle has been preserved, built into the tower of the evangelical church. The Renaissance manor house in Hrachovo was built in 1565 by Zsigmunt Ruthényi and Klára Palágyiová. In 1727, it was converted into a two-storey building; it has retained this form to the present day. The manor house included a landscaped park with rare trees. In addition, a landscape park dating from the first half of the 19th century belongs to the manor house.

Other historic buildings include the Classicist curia in Hrachovo, built in 1773 by František Tihányi. The evangelical church was built in 1808 in the Classicist style with Baroque elements. It contains a Renaissance altar dating from 1629, transferred from the former wooden Gothic church. The present evangelical church also preserves a stone Gothic baptismal font from the former church.

The Church of the Name of the Virgin Mary was completed in 1769 and built in the Classicist style. It contains a painting of the Virgin Mary from the late 19th century and a stone baptismal font dating from 1830. Hrachovo is also associated with the poet, translator and Slovak national poet Samo Vozár: Hrachovo is his birthplace. A house with a memorial plaque stands in the town; Samo Vozár lived there, and his grave is located in the local cemetery in Hrachovo.

The primary school in Hrachovo established a memorial room in honour of the poet. This memorial room dedicated to Samo Vozár contains interesting exhibits from the poet's life. The town's historical connection thus extends from medieval architectural history through churches and aristocratic residences to a literary commemoration associated with a named individual.

Nature

The Svetlianska cerina nature reserve is subject to the fourth level of protection. The area covers 15.30 hectares. Old trees characterise the reserve; at the same time, Svetlianska cerina provides habitat and a rare refuge for cave-nesting birds and other fauna.

Cycling

Hrachovo is also explicitly included in the regional cycle-route network. The Cyklomagistrála Liptov–Horehronie–Gemer, Route 040, currently ends in Hrachovo. The route is classified as a medium-difficulty MTB sports route. Its current endpoint and designated difficulty therefore both remain decisive for classifying the route.
